Lyrical Monday: "Light Your World"

I thought that for the next several weeks I would write about Christmas songs that have made an impact on me. Even though it's after Thanksgiving, it's also not December yet, so I thought this week would be the perfect time to share a non-Christmas Christmas song. Let me explain...

You've all heard the song "Christmas Shoes," right? It exploded in popularity a few years ago, and everyone seemed to love it (until it was way overplayed on the radio). It is sung by a group called Newsong, who many people were unfamiliar with until "Christmas Shoes." I, on the other hand, grew up listening to their music. My parents were big fans (especially my mom), and I went to a couple of their concerts and we had all their albums (tapes first, then CDs). And while I may not listen to their music much anymore, I have to say they have several very well-written songs, including one that had been released early in their career and was re-released on their Christmas album. It's technically not a Christmas song, but it certainly embodies the Christmas spirit, though it is the same spirit we should have all year-round.

The song is called "Light Your World." I'll post a video for it below so you can hear it if you're interested, but here's the chorus:

The verses tell a story about a young boy reaching out to his widowed next-door neighbor. It's very sweet and often makes me teary-eyed (believe me, not very many songs or movies do that to me). What speaks to me today though, is realizing even reaching just a few lives can be an important impact. I always imagined myself sharing my talents in such a way that I could make an impact to many. Maybe that is yet to come, but since it has not happened yet, I often find myself discouraged. When I was listening to this song this morning, it reminded me that anything I do to touch anyone's life makes a difference. I know I have at least helped some people, because they've told me I have. I hope I will have the chance to impact many more, but this song is a reminder that even the little things help change the world.
