Jon Foreman is a Lyrical Genuis

John Foreman wrote a song the day before his 22nd birthday called "Let That Be Enough", which ended up on Switchfoot's sophomore album, "New Way to be Human". This was before they got really popular, but they actually had this song in a Disney movie called Model Behavior. I loved the song instantly and was excited when I found out who sang it. Now I'm a HUGE Switchfoot fan.

All that to say, this song has always been special to me. I can often relate to this song. I think this really is a song that can resonate for the young twenty-somethings trying to find their place in this world. I graduate in less than a year. I am in my last year of school. I don't know what I'm doing after that! I'm getting married, but other than that I have no clue! And getting married, wow, that's huge! I'm so excited but almost scared, just because it's a huge step. But mostly excited. But it's crazy that I'm growing up.

I heard this song on my iPod today, and it was sort of funny to realize that, in exactly one month, I will be 22. The age I graduate. The age I marry. A pretty big age for me needless to say. Garrett turns 22 in a few days. This year is really my "Let That Be Enough" year. Jon Foreman was probably going through some big stuff too. It was scary and uncertain for someone so young, but so exciting. And he knew God was with him in all of it. Whatever comes my way I know that He will be working through it. Here are the lyrics...

I wish I had what I needed
To be on my own
'Cause I feel so defeated
And I'm feeling alone

And it all seems so helpless
And I have no plans
I'm a plane in the sunset
With nowhere to land

And all I see
It could never make me happy
And all my sand castles
Spend their time collapsing

Let me know that You hear me
Let me know Your touch
Let me know that You love me
Let that be enough

It's my birthday tomorrow
No one here could know
I was born this Thursday

And I feel stuck
Watching history repeating
Yeah, who am I?
Just a kid who knows he's needy

Let me know that You hear me
Let me know Your touch
Let me know that You love me
And let that be enough
